A Black Beaded Bag

Well, I received another special request. This time the customer wanted an Amulet Bag that I have listed… only in all black. I knew I could do it. I just forgot how long it takes and where the pattern was! I remember I enjoyed making the bags, not the prep. I asked for at least two weeks knowing that I would have to find a/my pattern, cotton, beads and needles and time. I figured it would be mostly taken up by searching.

This is what she saw…

After a little research I got to work. It all came back to me.

This is what I did for her.

It is hard to know what someone else has in mind. I hope she likes it.

This project has kicked-in the knitting bug again…yup, I’ve started two more! – T

Simply Painted Garden Trellis

Working out in the garden, I noticed this plant that didn’t look like the others. This one had bigger rounder leaves and little curly arms like a vine. Ooo, maybe it will someday give me grapes or some sort of berries! The poor little thing has been chopped down with the geraniums at least 7 times! That’s how long we’ve lived here.  So to make sure this doesn’t happen again I thought I would draw more attention to it.

This was just an old trellis the previous owners left in the patio. I have a terra cotta pot painted to match (…why?). I love it even though it is so simple. When my daughter saw it she said “oh yeah, Mary Engelbreit”. Yes, I am a fan. Simple, colorful and fun. Thank you M.E.

I can’t stop here…can I?  – Tina

Candy Look Alikes

These kinda bother me. They came out great, which may be the problem.

I wanted to make these or at least see if I could. Naturally, I needed to do research. Yum.

I did them the same size and close to the same color. After putting a glossy coat on them I had to be extra careful with my “research” supply. I was getting them mixed up… I go see the dentist next week. – T

Dragon Attack

The other day I seemed to get a little push from the great beyond or something. I just had this feeling I need to add more stuff in my Etsy Shop. I didn’t question the feeling I just did it. Usually, I will question – is this good enough? I think we all do. Art is very personal. I have so much stuff made and ready to sell at a craft sale.

Digging around I found my Christi Friesen inspired dragons I made a while back. I have all her books, she’s awesome!

I really like this one, he’s my new favorite. – T

July? What is on Your Workspace? Inchies….

Well I just can’t seem to get going here….  Did you all have a great 4th Of July?  I sure hope so.  I cannot believe it is July!  Where did the first half of the year go?

Well I think that I have procrasted long enough.  I signed up to take part in an Inchie Swap with the San Diego Polymer Clay Guild for July.  Since I thought I could really do something neat with the “Inchies” that I received I decided to make 2 sets.  That means I get to make 48 “Inchies”.  Just in case you don’t know what an Inchie is–it is a 1″ x1″ piece of polymer that can be made using texture or technique I wish to use.  I may do a cane so all I have to do is slice it, or I could do and extrusion and make it into a 1″ square that could be sliced.  I guess I will have to go get busy and see what happens.  Several other artist have mentioned not picking a technique that would need lots of sanding and buffing in the end.  I for sure will not do that.  One group had a color theme.  That would have been a good idea.  Maybe next time.  So I am off to my workspace to create something.  Anything is better than what I have been making lately… zippo.. I will keep you posted. –K

More Bottle Caps To Steampunk

After teaching a few classes at The Bouncing Bead I couldn’t help getting back in the steampunk mood. I’ve made some rings and pendants for my Esty Shop.  Back to silver overlay bottle caps, you know… fancy recycling.

Notice the little flower swirl in the pendant? I got that from one of Marie’s Etsy Shops – The Hoarder’s Closet. I kinda like that bit of pretty in it.

I thought all bottle cap jewelry was the same until I held other brands at the craft and hobby trade show last January. The ones from the scrapbook companies were really light weight, they almost felt like soda can metal.

I did not buy any.

These are from a jewelry manufacturer, Amate Studios. Big difference, these feel so much sturdier.

It looks like I just can’t get away from purple and blue. I’ll try to force myself to expand my color choices on the next thing I make…really!  – T

Demonstrating at the Fair!

I demonstrated at the San Diego County Fair on Saturday.  The San Diego Polymer Clay Guild Has done that in the Home and Hobby section of the fair for years.  It is fun to show people what the clay is all about and talk with the visitors.  We let them make a bead if they were interested.   Then they could come back after we had baked them and take them home.  They all seemed very excited about doing it.  Most of them couldn’t wait for them to finish baking and cool off.  We had to give their bead in a paper towel because it was still hot from baking….

I had found out earlier in the week that my necklace had places first!  Then when I got to the fair I found out that the bead that I had entered had also placed first. I had posted pitures previously.  Very exciting!  What fun!  There is a lot of fabulous pieces of art in the Home and Hobby section of the fair.  You should go check it out.  People put a lot of heart and soul into their work.  Of course we had to look around at all the other things at the fair.  The worst thing I ate was probably the fried zuchini, and that is just because it was fried.  I did not partake of any of the other “goodies”.  So if you are in the area go visit the exhibits in Home and Hobby at the Fair.  -K
